power brake booster question

Do power brake boosters ever go bad? At the moment, money is tight for the truck, but I need to install my brake booster. The booster itself worked fine when it was pulled, and it appears to be in excellent shape, at least on the outside. Can/should I clean it up, repaint it, and use it....or buy a new one?

Not trying to cut corners, just not sure if this is pretty common or if most would spend the money on a new one.

Anyone buy a new one lately, how much do they go for and where did you get yours at?
