In-tank pump with 87 blazer tank/sender wiring

So I just got in all the parts I need to plumb my fuel with the 31 gal blazer tank.

GM14C tank
FG12L sending unit
EP381 pump

I think I've seen a couple of times that the pump wiring on the sending unit needs to be beefed up a little for reliability. What gauge does it need to be replaced with?

Also, never done anything with a fuel pump before, so wondering if there are any good tutorials or build threads with pictures for putting together the pump on the sending unit. It looks pretty straight forward, but I want to make sure I don't miss anything.

Thanks in advance!
