Best Buds 1986 K20 LB
A lifelong buddy last summer let me know he was finally ready to sell me a 1986 K20 LB Silverado that I’d been bugging him about for over three years. His text: “$4000.00 and you get the truck and all the spare parts I have for it stored in my garage”. Understand, this truck has been in a dry storage warehouse for 18 years, the only rust in the truck is in the cab-corners and a little on the lower doors. I went to his house to look over the spare-parts, what I found, N.O.S. heaven! N.O.S, bedsides, grill, dash-pad, door panels, chrome, chrome, and more chrome, sun visors, inner fenders, emblems, lights, etc.. etc... etc... Those parts, plus extra used doors, fenders, tailgate, etc… that are in perfect condition. I figure somewhere between 5K-8K (retail) worth of NOS parts, plus the spares. There was only one small problem, another buddy of mine and my best friend (more of a brother) when I had asked him some six month prior what was his favorite truck/car of all-time was, told me a 1985/1986 K20 LB ;-)
Well, with that said, the truck was purchased (by my best bud) with all the parts, and is now sitting in my garage for him to bring back to life. After picking it up, getting 18 years of dust/dirt washed off of it and rolled back into its new home to be brought back to life, it’s fun to watch a friend look like a little boy at Christmas with his new toy. Since Tater’s a few years younger than me, and since I already have a 1985 K30 Crewcab it just seems fitting its big brother, little brother. When we were closing up my garage I asked him, “You think we can get anymore in there?” His reply “One maybe two, if we try”. |
