steering cable question

got my shifter cable finally set up on the transmission side to shift perfectly. Now the problem. The column arm that moves the cable goes down when shifting out of park and I need it to go up. LOL My cable comes in from the bottom as it is not long enough to loop from the top. Anyone have this problem and or a solution. I am thinking I may have to fab a plate or horse shoe bracket and move my cable to the other side of the column.. In a thread I read a couple weeks ago someone said they reversed the arm to make it work. Don't know how this is possible. any thoughts
