the point was if you put a hole in a vertical flow radiator it will stop working and overheat immediately. whereas a horizontal flow radiator with a hole in the upper part of the core just may get you home. so like i said GM,Ford,Mercedes and all the rest went to horizontal radiators, it wasnt because of cost, it was because of airconditioning bigger motors and better efficiency.
