How would you rate these hood hinges?
I received a set of new hood hinges today. I won’t mention the vendor as I’ve sent them a message and want to give them time to respond. But, I wanted to get your thoughts on them in case I’m expecting too much. They were described as “Hood hinge, exactly like original. Highest quality available.” So if this is normal, I’ll give them a shot…but they don’t look or feel better than the bad originals I removed on the surface. Maybe they would shine when installed.
Issues: The right hand hinge had an elongated hole where one of the rivets goes. This appears to be a guaranteed “slop” point once things get worked over time. The other holes seemed circular like I would expect. Otherwise the mechanism is tight, currently. My concern is long term with it. The left hand hinge was very easy to move out of the box. If I hold the fender side tightly, I can get the hood mounting flange to move or twist left/right maybe 1/8-1/4” with the arm allowing it (like the rivets are not tight). If I hold the whole hinge assembly in the air, I can make it chatter almost like a tambourine. I try to show that looseness in the pictures. Look at the top right corner of the photos at that part of the hinge. Use the background as reference to see it moving. The hinge with the slotted hole does not chatter. Are these concerns valid or normal/ok? I do know they will behave differently with springs and a hood on it, too. I paid a little more for them vs AMD and others to try to get the best aftermarket I could. And please, before you tell me….yes, I know I can look for originals in decent shape or have originals rebuild. ![]() UPDATE: Vendor contacted me back. They said all their RH hinges have the rivet/slot that way. They’re not sure why, but have had no issues with them. On the left side, I was told that when installed with springs, there will be no issues with things seeming loose. I’m tempted to give them a shot, but looking at the loose one, the area it is loose would not be affected by the spring. It would still have the same movement. Thanks.
