Replacing tailgate posts/taillight backing panels.

I was wondering if anybody on here has replaced the tailgate posts and taillight backing panels on an '80s square body. My '87 GMC needs them done on both sides. I bought what appears to be decent quality reproductions from LMC. Now it's 'just' a matter of doing the job. When I get around to it I'll be removing the box to make the job easier.

One of the guys I spoke with suggested removing the box sides to do it. I really don't want to do this unless I absolutely have to. Also, I'm not worried about damaging the paint, so cutting spot welds from the outside (if there are any) isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice! -Marc.
