Door Hinge Friction Pad Differences

After an extensive search of the forum I have run across 3 part numbers for the door hinge friction pads, 3891809, 457674 and 15672666. I recently picked up some of the ones with the part number 15672666. These are made of nylon instead of the brake pad-like material used on the other two part numbers. I also noticed that the replacement parts from Classic Parts, which include the metal holders, appear to also be made of some sort of plastic.

There are a couple good threads discussing how to rebuild the door hinges and/or replace these friction pads but I still have a couple questions.

Are the pads friction fit or do they require some sort of adhesive to stay in the metal holders. Have any of you used both the brake pad-like version and the nylon version and does one work better than the other? Also, the shape of the newer 15672666 pads is different than the older ones, including the ones currently on my truck. The older ones are rectangular when looked at from the ends but the newer, plastic ones have a trapezoidal shape. It's difficult to tell but it looks like the ones from Classic Parts are shaped like a trapezoid as well. Here are some pictures for comparison. Pics 4 and 5 are of my pads with a part # 15672666. The white ones are the Classic Parts version.
