350’s, 396’s, and other internally balanced Chevy engines also use 168 teeth flywheel so either way, you shouldn’t have a problem using an off the self late model GM starter. You will have to add something to fill the gap in the dust cover though. The picture I posted was right after I installed the engine….before the starter wiring harness was loomed, closed the temporary O2 sensor port and filled the starter gap with a cut heater hose.
