Funny looking leafsprings???????
I started working on my other 77 stepside and came across this. It looks like someone's crude attempt to lower the rearend a few inches, both sides are the same. Do you think I should replace them ? I wonder how strong they really are. The front coil spings are really bad, looks like they were heated.

Holy hell! That may just qualify for the All Time Greatest Darwin award.
Yeah not only should you replace them ASAP you should cut them after taking them off to make sure nobody else gets any bright ideas about cheap lowering springs.

Grande rojo,... what length leaf spring do you need? I think they made a 56" and a 52". I have a pair of stock 52" springs. I might even have some stock rear shackles. Let me know if you are interested. I'm right here in Missouri. Get those things off of there!

I have seen a truck locally done the same way. It bounced all over the parking lot when he pulled in.
The person who duid that probably heated the fronts, too. That is something to look at if you haven't already. Slonaker |

i would get those things the hell off that truck and quick-they look like trouble waiting to happen.on my parts truck once i pull the rear end out ill have a set of springs and shackles you can have if you pay for the ride to get them to you.im not sure of the measurements but i can get them.anyone know exactly how to measure if there 52 or 56 inches-is that like from one shackle to the other or another point on the frame to another point on the frame?

looks like a set of worn out springs to me, not someones attempt to lower anything. too much spring wrap will kill the main leaf. there was a guy on CK5 who did something very similar to his ford 57" springs on the rear of his K5

That there looks like someone's handywork. There's no way spring steel would permanently yield like that on it's own. It may rust, deform due to age and break but it sure as hell isn't going to bend itself into three different angles.
