Billet Column Shifter - Help Please!
I just got a billet column shift lever for my 76, and I can't seem to get it to work right. At first it wouldn't even go in the slot, but I noticed a burr or two sticking down in the way, so I just took a small file and knocked those down a bit. Now it will go in to the point where i can put the pin back in, but it won't "lock" into any gear, including Park! Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? Do I possibly have the wrong shifter? The end on the new one is totally different from the original, but I figured it was just a new design or something...am I wrong?
Thanks in advance.... Mike W. |

Anyone?????
I went back and looked at my LMC catalog, and it does appear that I have the right shift lever, but it just doesn't seem to work correctly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mike W. |

Well, I finally got around to taking a picture of the 2 shifters. Can anyone please tell me how the new one is supposed to work when it looks nothing like the original one? I can get it in far enough to get the pin in, but it won't "lock" into gear, or in to park.....and that can't be right (or is it?). On the original one, there is a little piece of metal sticking out the back side that appears to fit into some notches on a plate that you can see inside the column if you look down into the hole where the shifter arm mounts. Just from looking at it, it appears that that's what keeps you from being able to knock it out of gear without pulling on the shift lever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike |

Well, I don't think it's been changed. My uncle bought the truck new, and when I got it, it still had everything original as fas as I know.
Could there be a difference in a tilt vs. non-tilt shift lever? Mike W. |

Mine is non-tilt. Maybe that's what the difference is. Maybe someone can confirm.

My tilt is identical to the one you posted above. I would bet that is the problem.
