T-case rattles at 60 MPH...suggestions
It's a mutt (body from C20, frame and running gear from K20) 350 with 4 speed manual and I believe the 205 t-case. Shifts in and out of 4hi and 4low well.
When I approach 60 MPH the t-case shift lever starts to vibrate and make noise. Gets louder as I increase speed. Sounds like the linkage is rattling more than anything else. Suggestions? I can certainly live with this because the truck isn't my daily driver. Wondering if I've got a slight kink in a shaft causing a little wobble. Or bad bearing in the case?

My shifter rattles too. I think a new shifter boot may hold it enough to keep it from rattling, but I am not sure. Let us know what you figure out.

I have the same thing. I know when I am doing 55mph by the rattle. The short term fix is to put something over it like a mitten, welding glove, heavy rag. I didn't believe it would work, but it does. Matt Rein told me this trick a few years ago and I have used it since.

I had the same prob with a 70 k20. PO use the wrong size bolt and no washers to hold the shifter. Replaced with correct bolt and washers and was tight as new.

I was wondering about washers and bolts for the shifter. I'll check into that. Thanks. The boot is cracked and I can see the cement through it. Replacement coming as soon.
Yes, it is a 30+ year old truck, and it's going to rattle and shake. I'm amazed that it doesn't sound worse than it does...I'm thinking the PO took good care of this ride.
