Drop Shackles will be here today, WooHoo!
If I can beat daylight enough, I'll get them put on and snap a pic. I measured everything, and found out I can go a good SOLID 2" in the back, and at least a good solid inch in the front (lower). So that will put my pinchweld between 7"-8" off the ground
BTW: I see no point in Notching...when we were putting my fuel cell in. My friend and I (I'm 200lbs, he's 250lbs) were both jumping up and down in the bed, and the MOST the frame moved was 1.5". Right now, I've got a SOLID 4" of clearance, so 2" should be no problem. (Since I don't plan on hauling anything heavier than 200lbs anyway, and I don't drive it on any REALLY rough roads (as well as I try to avoid potholes, etc.) |

Just notch for insurance, it doesnt take more than 3 or 4 hours anyways and you can do it without even taking off the bed.

BTW: DAMNIT! There's NO way I can notch the bed enough for the shackles to fit, with the bed on. So, I'll have to wait till this weekend, till I can go over to my friend's house and have him cut the crossmember...that crossmember has given me a LOT of hell. Had to cut it for the cell, and now have to cut it for the shackles..wonder why they put it in there.. |

Actually Jeff (BigBlock73) has a better pic. He has a pic of the bed already CUT. Don't you have shackles/hangers on Adam? You might not have had to cut it up, because you also have drop springs, no?

i talked to belltech today, and according to them, they dont have shackles to fit our trucks becuase there is not enough clearance
they suggested to me, to go with hangers to get the 2" of drop i'm looking for in the rear... with my stepside bed, will shackles work?? how much work is involved in hangers???? |

I purchased Bell Techs shackle AND hanger kit about 8 years ago...they should still offer both. The drop shackles required you to cut a 7" section out of the bed support in order to clear them. Here are 2 pics, one is of the cut out bed support, the other is of the drop shackles. You can see in the shackle pic, how they now stick up above the frame. It was easy to do with the bed removed...or at least raised.

You cant get enough clearance? Just take the stock shackles out, get out the trusty side grinder or sawzawl and cut away, as simple as that. I made mine with the bed on.
