Hi 72Longbed,
Are these springs variable rate or constant rate? Thanks.

71-longbed and Ice68,
I'll check the weight of the springs tomorrow and get shipping costs for each of you. (71-longbed has first dibbs right now.) As far as the question about spring rate, I believe these would be considered 'Variable Rate' springs. These are the same springs that ECE currently sells, If somebody has their catalog maybe you can look these up to verify if they are the 'Variable' type. Be back to you all tomorrow, 72longbed |

Constant rate coils are acceptable on the front of most vehicles, when the correct spring and shock absorber combination is fitted. However, constant rate coils are not acceptable on the rear, as they produce a harsh ride when unladen and a comfortable ride only when laden.
On variable rate coils, the wire diameter tapers for part of the spring length and then remain constant from that point onwards: the tapered section is the first stage of the variable rate spring and provides the ride comfort when unladen. Our ½ ton 2 WD trucks had variable rate springs as standard equipment. The picture of the springs from ECE looks like a constant rate spring (but they may have the wrong picture posted on their website. 72Longbed would know by looking at the springs he has for sale and compare them to the OEM springs.

FYI Everybody,
These springs are Early Classic Enterprises, American Made, Matched Spring Rate, Latest Technology, Top Quality, Custom Made for ECE. Ask anybody who has bought, seen, or touched any ECE product and they will tell you that "you can't go wrong with ECE", "top quality", etc., etc.. I will bet you that the engineering that went into these coils far exceeds the 35 year old technology that GM OEM springs might have. These springs ride excellent! So, the first member of this board that says, "I want them for what they are", gets them. I don't mean to be short here, but I'm letting ECE quality speak for itself on this one. Thanks, 72longbed |
