Intermittent Wipers

It was finally nice enough to hit the junkyard today. A little muddy, but it felt good to get outdoors.

I came across a Blazer (I'm guessing it was an '86 or '87) that still had the intermittent wipers in it. I got the switch, as well as the little "brain" box from under the dash, and as much of the wiring harness I could reach (the part that stays in the truck). After I got it out, I walked around to see if there were any other trucks that had the same style plugs on the wiring harness.
There were two other styles of plugs that I could find. On one, there were 4 terminals side by side. On the others, there was an "L" shaped plug with 5 terminals but only 4 wires. By the time I got home tonight, it was dark and already getting cold, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what style plug my truck has. I was wondering, will this work in my truck (79)? Will this be a plug in deal, or will I have to re-wire everything? Did I need to get the wiper motor too? Has anybody out there done this conversion to their truck? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure this can be done before I get in over my head. Thanks for any help! Layta...............E

BTW, the Blazer looked to be one of the last of the 73-87 bodies. It had the grille with the big square headlights. But, it had the early door panels with the map pockets and the fancy aluminum trim, the later dash bezel with the silver finish, but the early dash pad. It also had the column mounted cruise control, but the wiper switch was on the dash. It was definitely a strange one! E

I can help you some. You don't need to change the wiper motor, all you need is the wiper switch and the intermittent control box. On my 84 I was able to install the controll box between the factory wiper harness plugs.

It sounds like the donor is 83 or older. It appears 1983 was the last year the wiper switch was on the dash. My 84 has it on the column. Every 73-87 with factory cruise I have seen has the cruise control switch on the column. The square headlights mean the the truck is no older than 1980. Sounds like your wiper parts are 80-83 which should plug right into your 79.

No, the wiper motors have changed, but you don't have to change the motors to incorporate intermittent wipers.

Yep, it was plug 'n' play! I pulled out my wiper switch, and the new one went right in! Super simple conversion. Took all of 10 minutes to install! Thanks for the help everyone! E
