Why No Fuse Protection?

I know there is a fusibale link for the main power supply from the battery but why is there no fuse protection from the main charge wire from the alternator?

Just guessing but are you trying to protect the alternator or the Harness? The alternator has 12v (16 guage white&dark blue) going to the field windings(about 18 gauge solid) as well as the output(12 guage red). to protect the alt. you would have to fuse both, The diode bridge in the circuit just before the output wire will keep voltage from going backwards into the alt. unless that is what shorted then OOPs you have to replace it anyway.
Fuses that are in high current protection don't like vibration, They have a tendance to go open when they heatup so you won't find them there to often.
If the alt. does short the fusible link(16 guage ) goes, voltage goes, no burnt wire harness. That is why never replace your wires with some thing other than what was there originally.
