Question Water temp sending unit

Where is the water temp sending unit on a 305? I recently bought an 84 c10, (couldn't help it, added a pix ) silverado with the upgraded instruments with the water temp gauge, and it is not registering at all.......

As I said, found the temp sender, but NO WIRE---NOTHING but the sender sitting there....didn't see a grn wire hanging anywhere either (haynes diagram shows a green wire for this sender).........any help here would be greatly appreciated to get this hooked up and working.......again, it is a silverado with the better cluster with temp gauge.......

It's a wire that runs to the main harness on the fire wall. On my truck theres more than one green wire. A/c, fast idle, and temp sender run down the left side of the engine next to the carb and valve cover. some of them run down the block under the Exhost manifold. It could have fallen down the back of the engine. The wire comes out of the harness above the dist. ( on my truck ). when you find the wire ground it out and your gauge should move to hot. Matt

As you said there should be a dark green wire in the main harness that is hooked up to nothing. As mat said there may be more than one. Find it ground it and gauge will max out. Pete

Wink Thanks

THX guys! Appreciated......I hope its there, this 305 has been rebuilt with a cam and such, and non-environmental Edelbrock 1406 carb (no emissions stuff anywhere), so I hope that the wire is there somewhere.......I am finding some things not hooked up or just laying there from the engine transplant.....UGH!!!!!
