305
I have a 79 Impala with a 305, the cam was flat, i mean flat when we took it out it had 6 lobs completely rounded. and 3 of the lifters were so mushroomed that we had to put vice grip on and a pry bar to get them out. but anyways we put in a new cam, factory 305. and new lifters. we got it all back together and when we were seating the valves and the intake on #3 the stud has worked up and the nut is all the way tight and the valve and push rod are loose, is there anyway to push that stud back down? also how do you acuratly adjust the valves so its not missing so much, well its not missing but it sounds like the timings off but we used a timing light and timed it. but i think the problem is in the valves any help??

If the rocker stud has worked it s way up, then I would get a screw in place stud to replace the stud unless someone makes oversize studs that you could drive into place. The stud has lost the interference fit and will come back out .
The method that I use to adjust valves is to adjust at hot idle, (I use the oil shielding clips to keep oil from squirting everywhere). I turn each adjustment nut to loosen the valve, until it clicks, retighten until the clicking stops and then, tighten 1/4 turn additional. Jim |
