Alternator Q's
Stock for a 1/2ton truck alternator wise is 63 amp. This style amp can also be bought stock in 78 and 91amp versions. I found out about the 78amp one a couple years ago and bought it as I had a large sterio. Well, I only bought the 3yr warrenty and its going out. Lucky for me, I work where I bought it [checkers] and get 25% off. Also found a lifetime warrenty 91amp for only $10 more. So for $10 I get 13amps more and lifetime warrenty. Sweet. But now I don't have the sterio, and won't for a few months. Will running a monster alternator without the need have any adverse affect on it?

It'll be fine. The alt will only put out as much amps as needed.

Tom, I've had that Checker alternator for a couple years now.
Only complaint is I wish it had more amps at idle. With headlights, electric fan and sterio on I get some dimming. While driving 2500 rpm I still get a little light dimming, but not too bad. When I get around to it ($$$) Ill upgrade to a Powermaster (37294) 140 amp, it produces 80 amps at idle (800 rpm).

i can get one modied for 180 and it puts out 280 amp and 100 at idle

LOL I think 90amp will be plenty for me, no electric fans here. Just an engine, and later on a sterio. Never had any problems at all with the 78amp versions, I just want MORE POWER

When I put electric fans on my truck along with the stereo that I am running I needed more power. To solve this I went to a company called Tuff Stuff ( http://www.tuffstuffperformance.com/ ) and got an alternator that carries 80 amps at idle and 140 amps above 1500 RPM. This solved my problems for 3 years now.
