Re: 1 pc window kit
They install is shown on the Brother trucks web site.
You have to remove the door not a biggie if your in the middle of a resto. You aslo have to hack up your old vent windows. Now to get the kit to operate to my level of expertise I am still not really happy with the operation. BUT I was aware that the window wobbles could be a problem when I purchased the kit. At high speeds the tend to blow out of the track and you have to use your hand to pull the window in while the other hand is rolling it up. The front channel needs to hold the glass tighter that would solve the problem.

Re: 1 pc window kit
Are these kits worth the trouble to install and do they operate properly once they are installed? I am in the middle of a restore with the doors off and ready to be primed. I do not want to use the factory mirrors for a 1967-72 so filled in the mirror holes. In any event, are these worth their price, time to install, and operation? Please let me know.

Re: 1 pc window kit
So it sounds to me that they are not worth the time and money, is this correct?

Re: 1 pc window kit
Well it's not a 100% perfect operation kit in my opnion. I needed new glass and all weather stripping anyways. I am sure if I had the time and could track down a diffirent front channel weather stripping that would make the kit work alot better.
Like the window goes up and down fine makes the truck look diffirent than the others around here it's just not everytime you want to just roll the window up it goes where it's supposto. The vents are junk all you have left is the old glass wing window. I think you can go back to a vent window if you want to there is just a brack thats missing. The guy on the board who has a orange 4x4 went back because of the lack of air flow with out the vent windows. I didnt have a problem with air flow in the cab this summer. If you decide to get the kit and you in the middle of a resto there are a few areas that I missed and would like to have welded up to make the kit look like it was there from the factory. Nobody said anything it's just a small indent I would have like to see smoothed out.

Re: 1 pc window kit
I was going to go with the one-piece set as well so I did a lot of research on it. I have physically seen and operated 3 sets of one-piece windows and all three wobbled when rolling up and down, one of them had the problem like 72MARIO has where you had to "assist" the window up to keep it on track. Maybe there is a way to prevent this, like 72MARIO said with a firmer front track??? Who knows....I do not want to throw down $300 to have a less than smooth operation after spending sooo much time just trying to get everything else on the truck right.
Don't get me wrong here, I REALLY like the look of the one-piece windows, it's just that there needs to be some kind of "kit" that makes them work properly. 76bonanza - IMO I would just go with the power option. My $.02 Mike Last edited by BigMike; 11-28-2005 at 03:14 PM. |

Re: 1 pc window kit
I have the one peice windows and power window motors for them, but have yet to install them. I will be using a second seat of doors to build this setup off the truck first, and then will do my doors (they have already been painted.) I have seen several of these trucks with the windows, but only one set that worked perfectly. The guy took his time, and has no tracking problem or wobble with them. Will spend more time checking out his doors once I get to that point. (right now, bedwood is being varnished and is taking up the space in my garage)

Re: 1 pc window kit
Are both just as poor with the window track? Surely someone must make a decent kit?

Re: 1 pc window kit
John,
I spent 3 nights on my drivers door trying to get the window to toughen up it's the front channel for sure I had a close look at it tonight and that the problem. There is nothing more you can do to correct the problem. Bononza, It really depends on what you want to see. If you like the way the truck looks then go power. I would never put power in my truck I like that there is one less thing to break. As for wind noise unless the winds are gusts over 90KM I have had no problems.
