front cap removal
Engine and tranny going in next week. Do I have to remove the whole front cap? Or just the section with the radiator?

Re: front cap removal
Not even that really. It is much easier with the front clip off, but I did my 82's twice in 3 months) engine tranny removal/install by just removing the hood and radiator. Quick and easy.

Re: front cap removal
Just make sure that you can get it high enough. If you have an overhead hoist then you should be alright. If your using a roll around cherry picker be careful. They can get tipsy when you raise everything up high enough to get over the core support.

Re: front cap removal
N2TRUX is right about the cherry picker getting tipsy . My picker is a heavy duty unit with a nice reach but I always make sure the legs are extended past the boom so that the weight doesnt cause it to tip forward . If you are going to use a cherry picker , try to pull/install the engine/trans combo by moving the truck . If you give your self enough room you can push the truck under the hoist . This way you are moving the stable item (the truck) and the unstable item(the engine/trans/picker) doesnt have to be rolled ,pushed, or pulled to line it up . You can line it up by steering the truck . Have fun and be careful . Frank
