Smooth firewall pics
I plan on running aftermarket A/C on the 68. I need to see pics of smooth firewalls with the heater box removed. I need to see how to cover up the ugly hole for the blower motor.

Re: Smooth firewall pics
I did the same thing.
I made a plate to cover it up. I was going to use 2, one for the back round hole, then one for the front, but I just use one large one. Here's a pic. I may mount it a little differently, and probably paint it to match. This was done in a hurry before a show while in the middle of my A/C install. http://www.slickorange.com/Album/ima...gmc_image1.jpg There's a couple of other pics it shows up in too in that album... http://www.slickorange.com/Album/1971_gmc_index.html BTW - This was an afterthought pretty much. I had a factory A/C setup installed - otherwise, I probably would have done something more permanent. Last edited by Orange; 06-09-2006 at 10:02 AM. |

Re: Smooth firewall pics
Mine is not done yet, but I cut out some patches for the openings and welded them in. I have the fan opening, clutch opening and the other unneeded holes roughed in now, but no pictures yet.
I hope mine looks as nice as Yank's (last picture) when I'm finished

Re: Smooth firewall pics
Here is mine. I added a piece to the weird curve where the blower motor sat, so it would have the same outside curve as the other side. I also cut out both holes and welded in a single piece of sheetmetal.

Re: Smooth firewall pics
I shaved the wiring gutter along with the heater holes, lots more work but to me it looks good.

Re: Smooth firewall pics
When you guys add the a/c, what will the hole look like? I dont have pics here with me, but the cutout I have is about four inches long and two inches high. Previous owner filled in the hole made the afore mentioned one and installed a plug with four connections, but never installed the a/c. I think it is for old air but not sure. I will post pics in a few days. Have to get back to the states first. Kerry

Greasemonkey - that looks great man - I love it!
If mine had been what it is now from the start, then I would have wanted to take the route that you are going. ![]() |

That's the reason I wanted to see pics. I thought it might look unfinished also. It looks good either way. I was thinking of leaving it like it was and mounting my bulkhead fitting where the blower motor was.

I don't understand. What part is the "rounded corner piece"?

Re: Smooth firewall pics
I took the little hump out that's circled in red on glock35ipsc firewall since I didn't see a need for it with the Vintage Air set up.

Re: Smooth firewall pics
I like it. I really like the idea of a smooth firewall. Do you lose your glove box with vintage air?

Re: Smooth firewall pics
No you do not loose the glove box but they give you a new liner that is not as deep if I remember right. My kit has been in a box for about 4yrs now

Re: Smooth firewall pics
Off point question here maybe, but how many different manufacturers are there with this vintage air conditioning fit? are their a couple to choose from? Can I get some company names to search?

Re: Smooth firewall pics
vintage air, hot rod air, old air products, and airtique are a few of the different manufacturers.
