laying frame question
I just z'd my 71 C-20 4 inchs in the front, and plan on bagging it all around. Assuming I run a 27 or 28 inch tire, will I lay frame without drop spindles? I am trying to keep my 8 lug wheels and I am unable to find drop spindles for this application
Thanks Andy |

Re: laying frame question
the z is only 2.5 in had to do some work with crossmembers and frame rails to get rocker down and had to notch for trailing arms
and the bottoms of the lower a arms were droped so the bag would sit down into the arm

Re: laying frame question
the wheels and tires that ar silver are a smaller diam when i put the black 17 with same diam of 20s i was going to run it raised it up about 1/4 in from laying all the way out so now i am going with drop spin to get back down and hopefully be able to lay out on 22s

Re: laying frame question
Wow, neat idea. So you cut out the spring pocket of the LCA, lowered it and then re-welded it back together? Do you have any more pics of that? Sounds like an inexpensive way to gain an inch or so.
By the way, I'm diggin' that yellow.

Re: laying frame question
they convert it to 6 lug though (at least thats what the saleman said to me) I am trying to retain 8 lug, there is one place that sells them but they said if i run a wider then stock wheel the spindle may break, thats not the kind of quality i'm looking for. I am going to bag it first and see where she sits. I may just modify the control arm also . I got all winter to decide

Re: laying frame question
The real benefit of doing this is that you get a "squared" bag setup. There's only a small benefit to the actual drop since, when you lower the pocket, you're just reducing your ground clearance. Very quickly, the ground clearance problem outweighs the drop you get from the bag mount being lower.

Re: laying frame question
there is only a 3/8 plate welded on bottom of a arm so at the most only 3/8 inch of ground clearance is lost but being in same line as wheel there is prety much no way possable for the lower arm to hit ground especial with z in frame cause that raises cross member and lower arms for clearance and makes fram rails the next lowest part of truck besides driveline hoop in center crossmember hear is a pic laied out and you can see nothing sticks below a arm where plated

Re: laying frame question
its states standard offset only, they are most likely the same as the ones I found. If a spindle can't take a positive or negative offset and its suppose to be a 3/4 ton spindle, the manufacter is making an inferior product in my opinion I rather not lay frame then put on a possible future failure

Note also that the LCA is not "in same line as wheel" as you indicate above. The picture you posted indicates otherwise.
