1972 Suburban progress update

My son's 72 Suburban has been apart since 2001 and after much work, it is going back together. It took almost the whole month of October to paint the
body and parts. November was spent refreshing the frame and running gear which was originally completed in December of 2001. On December the 2nd we removed the body from the spare frame, (used for moving the body during the painting) and set it on the finished frame.

I took some pictures of the installation which are attached to this posting.

Pic 1 is the frame assembly.

Pic 2 is the body suspended ready for rolling the frame to go under it.

Pic 3 is the frame starting under the body.

Pic 4 is the body on the frame.

We are shooting for completion by spring of 07.

If you look at Faster57's latest reply to"updated of the wifes 72 Suburban" thread which I started he thinks that if we can name the disease which makes us endure the torment of doing body off restorations on these enormous vehicles that we love we might qualify for some kind of federal aid for research(LOL). Looks to me like you would for sure qualify!!!! Its nice to know that there are at least a couple of people out there who are just as crazy as me! Beautiful work...thats going to be an awesome Suburban! I can't wait to see it done! By the way,what are you doing for a headliner? I started a thread about this but no replys yet.

The headliner appears to be good enough to reuse if it is cleaned and painted.

If it had to be replaced then we would have to come up with another plan. At this time we have not come up with any other options.

I hope mine can stand with such a deserving crowd as yours and other recently posted. I like how several burb complete restos are going on right now. Its about time we stood up to represent our family trucksters. One thing about a burb though is there is Sooooo much more surface area, windows, seals, seats, etc!! What a roof too!

WOW! That green and white look sharp together. Your truck DEFINITELY deserves to be alongside the other restos going on. Looks factory fresh!

I'm also in a long term restoration on my Suburban, the frame has been done for 2 years now, 2 wheel drive, 1/2 ton with 402 bb & 400 turbo & 308 posi rear, all rebuilt.
the body still has a little body work left to do.

One problem I have is I cant find the old body to frame mounts or the hardware, and I cant remember what type go where.
Can you show pics of the mounts and hardware from front to rear?



I live in south Florida and the 2004, 2005 hurricane season had me moving the body, frame and parts all around the state.

These Burbs are huge. I thought we would never get to this stage. We have been working on it pretty steadily since 2001. My son got sick of the finish work on the body and after a month of paint work, I did not want to look at the big beast!

I ended up putting a set of mounts together for the Burb, modifying as necessary.

I should be able to mock something up and take some pics for you.

Brothers truck parts has sets of Suburban body mounts available. I will warn you now that they are not cheap! Body bushing with radiator support bushings(ordered seperatly) were around $200!!!! They will also probably backorder them since about everything I've ever ordered from is out of stock(maybe a Suburban thing?). Their body bushings were genuine GM replacement parts. Its good to know that there is yet another crazy Suburban restorer out there!

Energy Suspension sells a complete polyurethane kit with grade 8 bolts. You can get it from Summit/Jegs for about $120 shipped. It was the best $$$$ I have spent on the Burb, I could believe the difference.
