lowering question
This maybe a stupid question but I always see trucks and cars that are lowered so much that the front fender covers the front tire a couple of inches and I know some of them arent bagged. I would like mine to go that much but I think it would prob. rub. How low can you go until the tire rubs in a turn. my tires are 275 45 20 and there is about 2" from the outside of the tire to the inside of the fender. I would like to make it look like this pic or very close but is it possible to do it without bags? The lowered cars look like they would rub in turns but I guess they don't...thanks, corey

Re: lowering question
I would think that a truck that low on springs would ride like a brick. I could be wrong, but with that little travel, it can't be plush.
Without doing a lot of work to lower the body, I don't know that you can get that low and still be safe to drive. |

Re: lowering question
I just want it as close as possible to the pic. I know that I can drop it 8" in the back and 5.5-6 with springs, spindles, and blocks. Just worried about tire clearance and also driveability. Its going to be a somewhat daily driver so I do want a good suspension.

Re: lowering question
Anything more than a 4.5" drop in the front and your ride is out the window. That's why I went with bags in the first place. My truck isn't that low, but it will ride real nice.

Re: lowering question
But can you haul 18 bails of hay at that height? The whole reason I bought a truck was because I needed a truck. I installed the air ride to make it handle better, haul better, and I can still drop it and cruise when I'm not working.

Re: lowering question
The truck in the pic looks like it is bagged. To achieve what you're after, it depends on the offset of your wheels for one. A 275/45/20 tire is a LOT of meat, it's a pretty wide tire. Is it possible? Sure, how much cutting are you willing to do? You'll most likely have to remove your inner fenders at the very least. And as said, you won't have much suspension travel left if any. When my truck is aired out I can barely turn the front before rubbing on the outer fenders and I'm running a 255/35/20 tire w/ a 8" wide wheel w/ 5.25" backspacing. Here's a pic for reference before I started cutting it up to get lower:

Re: lowering question
67Fleet, is that picture rolling when aired out? Or do you have just a touch of air to get you off the inner fenders?
I have plenty of clearance when aired out right now, but it would be a harsh ride. Not too bad for a parade speed cruise though. |

Re: lowering question
it's aired out all the way. It rolls in a straight line like that, at low speeds only.

Re: lowering question
The truck at the very top is actually mine. It is a pic that some one chopped for me and I thought it looked awesome.
