Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
I finally broke down and installed a remote ford starter solenoid and it seems to have fixed my hot starter problems:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=1770423 The installation was pretty simple. I would recommend it to anyone having the same problems. |

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
I had wondered how you came out on the problem. Glad you got it fixed. I don,t know if it made it to the FAQS.

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
When my engine won't crank when hot I get out and turn the distributor clockwise (I have it set just tight enough so I can do this) a few degrees and it ALWAYS cranks and starts right up.

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
Cougar, the hot start problem he is talking about is heat sink to the solenoid on the starter so it won't activate - the remote solenoid fixes that issue.

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
I would like to do the same thing. I have the ford solenoid but my starter only has 2 places for a wire to connect. 1 is obviously for a batter and the other for a much smaller gauge wire. Any help??????????????

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
General Motors actually recommended this about 25 years ago when I was working on school busses. Had a lot of hot start problems with those. It's the first thing I do to all my trucks. Nice for working on also when you have to spin the engine with a remote

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
You actually have 3 ---2 batt posts and the single smaller post which will be for the purple wire. If you still have points you have the wrong solenoid. Napa st81 is what you want if you haven't conveted to an HEI. Then the purple wire will go to the S terminal and the yellow will go to the R terminal

Re: Remote Ford starter solenoid fixed hot starter problems
I did this to mine about 15 years ago. Still works great.
