check this out
this is the page i found that got me really exited about doing propane on my 468bbc i just had built that im going to be running twin turbos or a single turbo on. and its going in my 67 shortbed 2wd. im going to be raising the floor of the bed for my for a step notch needed to lay on 22,s. so i thought with the added room i will gain where the fuel tank was going to go, i could do a hinged area on the bed floor where i can house 2 propane tanks. and keep them out of site but still have easy access. what do you think, am i crazy or will this work out.

Now That Is Cool..i Would Like To Switch To Propane For My 3/4..but Havent Been Able To Get The Money For A Conversion Yet..id Say If You Got The Money Do It..what Can You Loose

I have my c20 on propane, it's the best thing i ever done, no more spluttering when cold and halved my fuel bill,I have a 55 chevy sport coupe which is on gas manufactured here in oz by gas reasearch it's a very nice looking system check ou this link

very nice 55, but can you tell me more about whats done to the motor and what parts are used for the intake and the rest of the propane setup. what kind of power are you expecting out of it. im running a low for propane 9.1 compression, but im using a turbo or 2. let me know any advice you have.

Sorry i took so long to get back but this is my third attempt to reply I keep getting logged out
![]() The engine is a 454 running 10.25cr, the heads have larger valves and have bronze valve guides and hardened valve seats due to the higher temps and dryer fuel comming in, the intake is a wiand single plane which is reccomended as propane takes up 30% more space than gasoline, the ignition is a hei unit that has been recurved for propane, good spark is a must, the carbs are our loacaly made Gas Reasearch units they claim more hp with there carbs than on gasoline, the converters are sitting directly behind the carbs I machined up some aluminium tops for them. The engine produces 425hp and 450ft lb on gasoline don't know about propane as it hasn't run on it yet I highly reccomend you have a look at the fuels forum that I put a link up for ,I think there were some guys in there doing what you want to do and they are a very helpfull bunch of guys like in here Hope this helps, Cheers, Marty |

interesting to hear about the intake i never thought about that .
there now is a liquid propane fuelinjectionsystem available frrom vialle (dutch) and by a american firm as whell , nice thing about this is it cools the intake charge so theoreticly should make even more power

10 years ago i dynoed a 460 at 435hp, the customer wanted it on propane so we put a 425 impco propane setup on it, it made 307hp. after installing 2 carbs, a tunnel ram and 10 hours of tuning from a propane guru we got 360hp. I like propane but convention kits just dont have the capabilites to produce the hp. Keep us posted on this kit and hp and drivability figures. I am looking forward to the forum that was posted to learn whats new in propane tech. Emisions and high octane ratings make propane something to look into a little more.

bi-phase is the american version for liquid propanefuelinjection , i suspect they use vialle parts for it . the propane is kept liquid through pressure theres a pump inside the tank and the feulsuply-line is inside the returnline keeping things cool to prevent vapourlock the injectors are simulair to fuelinjectors but can stand more pressure and cold . i've seen the megasquirt system being used with this as stand alone but the kits sell with a piggybag computer you need to hook up to the original fuelinjectioncomputer of the car . 1 other thing it needs to start on gasoline and switches to gas after bout 5 seconds

I had a cop car that was run on Propane, it has an octane number in the 100's so I am not sure why you couldn't make more hp with it than gas oline? It is why cheaper than gas as well. there are easy fogger systems, which they install on newer fuel injected cars, but they have systems to direct injection etc, only limited by your imagination and your $$$.

I never thought about Propane. I would like to convert my truck to E85 or some other alternative, but Propane is an option too I guess.
BTW, that is a very nice '55. It's not a truck, but it's all Chevy! |

i believe the octane number of the propane fuel was 118 or 108 im not sure .
it does depent on the propane butane mix they use (one of the two freeses up at a certan temerature and the other vaporates faster at a higher temerature making the pressure inside the tank too high ) the best thing to do is make it dual fuel . its hard to get a can of propane gas out in the middle of nowhere , or any place for that matter and if you have the can try to figure out how to put it in the tank itself ......

My brother's buddy built the hottest 68 GMC short step I have ever seen or ridden in.He built a 454 (I'm not sure what the cid is now though) to run on propane and it was a monster.The dyno said near 600 hp with torque to match.He has since done more to it but I haven't heard the numbers yet.
I didn't know that was possible with propane,but I'm a believer now.
