You think those wheels will tuck without a problem? I'm going to get the same ones for my 83 but my truck is going to be a lot lower. How much did you pay btw?

It's gonna take something with a wee bit more heat than the 'ol ladys hair dryer something more like a heat gun used for heat shrink tubin'. BTW your truck looks like a clone of Swervin Ervin's. |

Mine was actually brittle to the point of being dry and gritty, and the size of the "pieces were smaller than a dime. I coated it with Castrol and went over it with the bristle brush, to see what would come off, then scraped with the scraper. Did this a number of times to remove the top layer (and alot of it down to the paint). Then coated the area with goo-gone, let it sit and started scraping, as I said it was brittle, so it was all flaking off. I put the heat gun to it to see if it would soften up, and it did some, but some spots still needed scraping. I did this over and over until it was all gone. I use less amounts of heat on my part and more Castrol than goo-gone. I have a Before/after somewhere, just gotta find it...

on a side note, after I got alignment done...I noticed they had gouged the lip of my wheels. I was "off the hook", so to speak. Anyway, long story short, I'll be getting some new wheels. The only problem I ran into was the spring plate and the shock mount really close. I took the spring plate to my bench grinder, just the right width, notched a little bit, and fits like a glove. And if you are using drop shocks, don't use the shock relocators... Just an FYI, or you will be taking everything off the rear, and reassembling without them...DOH! First off, the drop shocks are too short w/ shock relocators, second off the shock relocator on my kit...is actually too wide for the shock, you could "bend" it I guess, but looks like, well, you bent it...

Re: Finally got done with my drop...pics inside
I did almost everything, I took the control arms to a powdercoat shop, and had a machine shop put in the new ball joints and bushings.
Time consuming, but once you see what needs to go where...it's pretty easy. If/when I take it apart again, it's a no brainer.

Re: Finally got done with my drop...pics inside
Sorry to hear that. But, do you think you'll use the 'opportunity' to get a little more BS on the fronts (if your replacement includes the fronts)?
