Hello from Texas!

I've been browsing this place for a couple of weeks now and the amount of information is great!

I'm from Austin but i'm currently attending college at Texas A&M Kingsville (near Corpus Christi). I've got a 78 Silverado but it died a tragic death earlier last year. I had just finished the mechanical restoration of it, which consisted of a brand new engine, rebuilt rear end with posi, entirely new braking system, rebuilt front suspension, 2.5 duals with flowmasters, 4 brand new Radial T/A's, Front end alingment, plus all the other work I did during high school. I was coming to Austin one weekend to pick it up and I got to drive it one night and it was awesome, but the next day my dad and I were tuning the carburetor and during the test drive someone swerved into my lane and hit me head on. Needless to say the frame is bent to hell. I was going to start the restoration on the body but with the condition it's currently in, the only straight or rust free piece of metal on the truck is the tailgate, so about all I can do is strip the truck of it's useful parts and find another truck and start over. I was extremely pissed from that whole ordeal because that engine barely had 300 miles on it and 5 months later i'm still 250 miles from home without a vehicle. That's hell for a gear head.

If anyone in Texas wants to sell an 82 or older truck, let me know. 82 is currently the highest year thats emissions exempt. I don't want to deal with catalytic converters and all that.

Here's a pic of what it used to look like. It's a 78 but it's got a 73/74 grill with a 454 emblem that created a lot of conversation and got a lot of stares.

from South Texas. Sorry to hear about the demise of your rig. Need to get started on another one so you'll forget about the last one. Good luck on your search!
