Re: rear spring help !!!

Al, I just changed mine this week. Soak the bolts with penetrating oil and unbolt the lower spring bolts first. Your spring retainers have a built in nut so all you will need is a breaker bar or impact wrench to break the bolts free. After the lower bolts are out, lower the rearend completely. Then with a long extension you can get to the upper bolts. You will need to place a wrench inside the frame to hold the nuts from spinning If you place a floor jack under the differential you can change both springs at the same time. If your lucky the upper bolts will break from old age and corrosion and save you some time. Best of luck.

Re: rear spring help !!!

With a torch!!!!

Seriously, lots of pentrating oil, lots of beating with a hammer to shake the rust loose, and a big wrench with a cheater bar. I let mine soak for week and ended up torching them off.

Re: rear spring help !!!

Undo your panhard bar if you havenet already, put a jack under the rear end, and slide it side to side until the u-bolts line up. that should work, and if not, undo the trailing arms until everything is loose and moveable. Good luck!
