Since I've given up on the electric fan idea for a while. I decided to put the regular fan blade with fan clutch on. Problem is it is hitting my original shroud. I've trimmed the shroud and I've trimmed a little off of each of the five blades. Still no luck. Does anybody see a problem with using one of the old six cylinder shrouds? Of course I'd clean it up and paint it or have it powdercoated. Some may not like the look but thought I'd ask.

Or should I just not run one at all?

It might not cool well enough. My six popper used to overheat in the summer with it. I put the full shroud on and the problem went away

No expert, but I don't think it will help much.

BTW- Is it just the pic or is your upper radiator hose kinked right there at the back of the alternator?

I've run those on the last 2 trucks I've had, on the longhorn with the cad engine, I had to 'unbend' it a little to keep it off the fan.
It does do a little to aid in proper airflow, but mostly, it'll help keep you from havin a finger chopped off.
I say run it if you can.
I've never had any cooling issues running this... or even no shroud for that matter. I don't know why, but my combination of marginal parts always seems to provide me with flawless cooling.

On a side note... it is a very bad idea to trim a fan... just a few grams difference from one blade to another can damage the water pump once at speed.

The one in the first two pic's is not so much a fanshroud as it is a guard. I don't think the originals look that bad tough. For best function you need one that surounds the fan and creates a tunnel to draw air through the rad. Like the stock plastic one do. like in pic.

With that serpentine setup a fan shroud from a BB truck should work thats what I had to use on mine.

OLDIRON69 That pic is not mine it's borrowed from someone else but, shrouds like this are factory just a little messin around may be in order with your serpetine system. I think neonlarry is on the right track.

Since this is a temp set up, flaten out that finger guare a little, maybe replace your trimmed ran, and run it... if you run hotter than you like, then take it from there. These trucks have enough frontal area that plenty of air gets in there.

WHOA!!!!!! I just saw a price for one of those. If I had known that I would have taken the one off of my burb before I traded it.

I know that the 6 cyl shroud isn't really a shroud, but I guess I was asking for cosmetic reasons. I think it would look better then nothing at all.

That is a small block shroud. I have one of those.

Also I forgot that I have to run something on it or the fan will hit the upper hose. In the pic above I just have it bent back around the alt to get it out of the way.

I had to trim about an inch off of the shroud to even get it to sit in there. Now, it's the fan scraping the inside of the shroud. Doesn't seem to matter which way I move it.

Neat fan shroud. I saw one on a 67 @ the wreckers and just had to have one. As you can see it is on my truck. Looks good and it's still GMC with a dash of the "Hot Rod" spirit.

When I bought my truck the first thing I did was power flush the cooling system @ a Mr. Lube. Then in went the new rad. This truck does not have a lick of over heating problems. If your truck has a good cooling system this fan shroud should not cause you any problems but then that is only IMHO.

No triming needed .... note how it is installed. you will need two rubber bumpers these can be had at the wreckers as vans used these same units. this will keep the shroud from hitting the blades as you can only moved it downward so far if you lean on it.
