Pictures from a Car and Truck Show (56k beware)

Cliff notes: Scroll down for pics of my truck and also varios other trucks at a car show. Entire thread contained in 2 posts due to forum image rules.

Saturday was the first time I entered a car show... I decided to go because I wanted to see some cool cars, talk cars with other people, and I needed an excuse to clean up the truck and drive. Also, it's kind of a "last hurrah" here in GA for the truck before I move to Texas.

I spent all of Friday cleaning the truck inside and out, getting it ready to show. Tifton, GA, was about 120 miles from my house, but the entire drive was through beautiful GA farmlands and I watched the sun rise over them as I headed southeast.

I met up with a local car club in Albany, GA, and we convoyed the remaining distance to Tifton. Traveling in a pack with a 62 Studebacker, a 56 Ford F100, a Triumph TR4, and a 46 Chevy Sedan proved quite fun. We had to go as fast as the weakest link, which happened to be the 46 Chevy. That beautiful car couldn't go past 45 MPH with much confidence...

Eventually we made it to Tifton; many vehicles had already arrived. As soon as we parked, we began the final preparations. About 100 vehicles would make it to the show.

Here is my truck, parked and finished with the final detailing. It looks much better in this photograph; once the sun gets high, the swirl marks in the original paint make their unfortunate appearance:

"Hey genius, if you want to score higher than a 0 for your engine, you'll have to pop the hood!" That's what a friend said, so I heeded the advice. Hood up, bedlid raised, windows down, and factory manual sitting on the driver's seat. Let's bring on the judges!

Here's a photo of the row I was in. The 46 Chevy to my right was a friend from the local club that I cruised down with:

Ok, time to walk around, talk cars, and take some photos!

Since this is a truck forum, I'll just share the trucks I saw. There were many trucks and I unfortunately didn't get a picture of ALL of them, but I did capture some nice trucks...

I loved this truck - owned by one family since new and passed down over time. Sadly, I could not understand a single word the owner said, so that's all I know! It has the original straight 6 pushing over 200k miles:

This was a pretty C10. I loved the white details and wheels. The color isn't my favorite, but I still love it:

This truck was great - a father-son restoration. Son straightened and painted this 63 body and also put in a hardwood bed. Father found a 77 Chevy C10 drivetrain with a 305 and TH350 and dropped the body onto it. The result is one awesome truck:

This is one of the rides I convoyed down with. It's a Ford F100 with a Chevy 327 and TH350. It won "Best Show Truck."

Here's another nice Ford:

Thread continues into next post...

I loved the color on this truck:

One man's toy is another man's tool... This 79 Suburban was not in the show - it towed a closed trailer that carried the "Best of Show" 1925 Chevy Coupe Contvertible. The owner cracked up laughing when I complimented his 79 'burb and asked to look at it. It has the original 454 and a fresh repaint:

The spectators had some interesting trucks, too. Here's a K5 Blazer:

79 C10, not in the show:

Another 79 C10, not in the show:

Here's a shot of my row... my truck tucked in the back. I loved the midyear Corvette with a factory 427, A/C, and 4-speed. It won the President's Choice.

It turned out to be a great day. We all stuck around for the announcing of trophies, etc. I didn't expect to win anything and didn't come to win, just to see some cool rides and share my truck with other people.

To my surprise, though, I wound up winning Best in Class: Trucks, 1971 - 2007. I was pretty happy, to say the least. Here's a link to the picture of the plaque:

I'd say it was a damn good weekend. I ended up putting 260 more miles on the truck, bringing the total to just over 21,200. The truck averaged 16 MPG over the trip.

Also, I learned a few things - apparently, a Holly Carb found its way onto my truck somewhere in the first ownership. Can't believe I missed that, feel like an idiot for not seeing the sticker! Also, apparently the shutoff solenoid is missing, or at least that's the best explanation we could come up with for the wire to nowhere atop the engine. I'll have to look into this. I'm also running rich, but I knew this. A friend just had to remind me, though, since riding behind me made him "high." Oh well, lots of fine tuning up ahead, I guess!

Loving the 73-87 trucks

Nice! Congrats on the award too Actually I was looking for a Ford truck like that '70s one you posted, only couldn't find nothing cheap and in halfway decent condition, so I ended up with a '79 Chevy with a messed up engine and no floorboards, lol Man I can't wait for summer, truck ain't gonna see no shows but car is a real head-turner when clean and shined up... Which reminds me I still need to clean them damn turbine wheels, lol

Fort Hood... I know nothing about Texas. Fort Hood is near Killeen and Temple and in between Austin and Dallas... it'll be a learning experience for me.

PS - We need to have a TX truck get together...

KMK454 -
Thanks for sharing.
There's some fine rides there. Especially that black one.

Looking at some of the nice restorations, reminds of a few mid-60s trucks that were neatly restored that I've come across.

Oh, and congrats on your plaque. But, it had to be altered...

That sounds good, but it is an ambitious project. Texas is a big state. The edges of the state are an 8 hour drive from centrally located Fort Hood, for example.

Let me know if you try to get one together. You are (well, will be...) about 3 hours from me.
