89-94 bench seat
I picked up a new seat at the yard a few weeks ago. Does anyone have one like this installed? How does it fit, and did you have to do anything other than drill a few holes?
Thanks |

Re: 89-94 bench seat
WE have one in the 69 they fit great, as far as drilling holes coudlnt tell you because we done our floor pans and had to drill new ones anyway, but i like these seats in the 67-72 better than the 99-up

Re: 89-94 bench seat
Installed one in mine ( out of an 88, got from a junkyard also. All I had to do was clean it up. ) I used the 2 existing rear holes and drilled 2 new front holes and made thin spacers for the front so the frame would set level on the floor. Then I made side covers to "hide" the frame. This was one of the best upgrades I have made so far. VERY COMFORTABLE. And my truck still has the tank behind the seat.

Re: 89-94 bench seat
Yes, I liked this style best, because it still has a classic look to it ( I could picture it covered in black vinyl..). That, and the back of the seat is pretty thin compared to others. The foam on these style seats seem very dense and durable too!
The pics look good fatboy!! Thanks for the install tips, glad it went well. |

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I've also thought about using some of that spray dye to change the color to black... had mixed thoughts about trying to dye the seat though, don't want to completely ruin it!!

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I tried dyeing the seatbelts Grey, it didn't work to well. Looked good for a while then eventually wore off of the fabric from the use. If you wanted to change colors, I suggest buying a replacement seat cover from a vendor. I know LMC carries them, I have been looking at them and comparing $$ and my labor vs an interior shop recovering. Just a thought

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I just drilled two holes on each side and used the factory holes in the seat frame. I butted the front of the seat frame against the hump in the floor.

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I also have the EXACT seat for my jimmy (my son freeze's in the back of my blazer at night so I'm benching the jimmy...)
I'm going to have mine recovered... More on this later. Rg

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I have to keep talking myself down off that ledge
Having that exact fabric in black would be nice, but I think I will stick with it. It should look OK with the rest of the gold interior. I'd like to have it done in custom vinyl white/gold as original... That'd be pretty sweet But the advantage to fabric is that you don't stick to it Thanks all! |

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I got one out of a '91 - it didn't have the armrest -I cut down the frame a little, because it was about an inch and a half too high for me (I'm 6'). It's a little stiff, but fairly comfortable. Had to drill a couple holes. All in all, It's a definite improvement over the stock seat and recommend it.

Re: 89-94 bench seat
I think I see where you cut it -- I may need to do the same thing since I'm 6'2 Good idea!!!
I'll have to take some before/after pics. Last edited by Jim_PA; 04-27-2007 at 03:07 PM. |
