Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my Southern Friends

. Up here we're still working on Thanksgiving leftovers - just in time for Christmas, eh?

So I'm just curious here.

Ever since I've been driving my truck - about 1-1/2 years now - the 700R4 tranny kinda "slams" from first to second. It's a little worse before everything has warmed up, but even when warm it's still pretty solid. All other shifts are nice and smooth and the tranny seems to work fine otherwise.

The previous owner said it's always been that way, from what he can remember.

So, any suggestions? Should I try some tranny conditioner? Or is this normal?

how long did the previous owner have the truck? somebody may have put a shift kit into it

The previous owner was the original owner - I'll have to ask him, I guess.

Pardon my ignorance on the subject, but what exactly does a shift kit do and how would I tell if I've got one?

it improves the life of the tranny and makes it have firmer shifts.

i'm not sure how you would tell if you have one or not

My truck is equipped with a 700R4. It was rebuilt and a shift kit was installed back in 1988. It shifts hard from first to second gear as well. Otherwise, I feel it shifts just right---Firm and smooth.

Man I love hard shifts. I can't live without them. Have to have my head slammed into the back window to like it.

Soft shifts are for goils...no offense.

Zilverado- What are the shift points in MPH? They may have added a shift kit but also your TV cable may need adjustment.

my 74 had a shift kit. Would chirp the tires in every gear. The best part was when I would slam it into second it would leave take off marks on the pavement. Plus the compression skids were really fun too!
