Kinda dumb question

If you havent ran the truck in awhile and dont know what to expect.

It has been sitting for about 8 months, and someone tried to start it a couple of months ago and it would turn over but not fire.

Are you sure the hoses are all good?

No, the hoses are pretty dry and stiff. The radiator is completly empty right now, and I just need to see if I can get it running well enough to get it home. I would buy hoses, but I don't want to buy hoses and then start it and find out that it has a rod knock or something and have wasted $30 on it. (it would be different if I was paying for the truck, but if I take it it will be free, so...)
I think I will just take 5 gallons of water, because I would have to drain it to replace the hoses to bring it home anyway. After I change the hoses then I will put antifreeze and distilled water in it. I am probably going to go work on it on sunday, so I will let you know what happens
