Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
I was told disc/drum booster & drum/drum booster not the same (1/2 ton) but when I changed them they looked the same. Are they? That's the drum/drum below.
Thanks.

Booster and master are the same as far as I know.
You just need a different prop valve (for your front discs). http://www.inlinetube.com/Prop%20Valves/VCT103.htm That's not the only place that has those. ECE has them, GMC Paul may...(he's a board vendor too). They just had the pic and I had the link. DLB Last edited by Orange; 05-22-2007 at 04:38 PM. |

BTW - what you see there is the distribution block;
http://www.inlinetube.com/Prop%20Valves/PR-112.htm They have quite a bit of info on their site as well as parts... http://www.inlinetube.com/Prop%20Valves/pro_valves.htm |

Re: Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
This confused the crap out of me. The boosters for our truck aren't specific, the only major requirement is that the booster will bolt to our firewall, and that the pushrod is long enough to activate the master cylinder via the booster.
So, basically, if you wanted to, as long as your MC has roughly the same bore and stroke as the stock one, you can use it. As long as the MC will bolt to the booster, you can use it with the booster, given that the booster bolts to the firewall and will work with your pushrod (Attached to brake pedal). Orange already covered the prop-valve issue. Drum uses a distribution. Drum/disc uses a unique prop valve to control how much pressure the discs get (prevent lockup). i am uncertain about disc/disc, but 99% sure that it also uses a prop valve so that you get more pressure to either the front or back to prevent lockup.

Re: Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
the masters are not the same.
the boosters are not the same. However, there's been more than one person who has used drum/drum master and booster on a disk/drum conversion, and claim it works fine. I wouldn't do it, but they say it's fine. |

Re: Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
what about using a drum drum booster with a 72 disc drum master cylinder on a front disc conversion.

Re: Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
PS - if the MC you chose was really THAT critical to the operation of your brakes, places like Summit and Jegs wouldn't carry the fifty thousand Tilton, Wildwood and SSBC "universal" master cylinders they have

Re: Disc/drum drum/drum booster the same?
get a prop valve and ditch the drum/drum distributor.
