The front oil filler tube is rather common on stock V8 manifolds on the 283 & 327 engines in the '64-'66 Chevy trucks. The oil filler cap is vented. The trucks I have with this feature and the factory valve covers, do not have the oil caps in the valve covers or a factory PCV valve. I have added vented valve covers with a vent cap on one bank and a PVC valve on the other bank to the underside of the air cleaner. I think this is a better method to stabilize the top end.
