Just bought a dry stored '79!
I went to the Goodwood festival of Speed yesterday ( i'm in England) and in the Bonhams auction was a '79 shortbox exactly like mine, infact the sequential numbers in both the chassis numbers are only about a thousand apart! So I won the auction for it, for only £3200!
It is so clean underneath and all the bodywork is a straight as new, and the engine just purrs. Turns out it is also EX-military and when is sold was then kept in a garage and only taken to the occasional American Car show over here. Only problem is now I have two, and I only want one and my old yellow buddy, although we have known eachother for ten years, is pretty rusty...I feel a bit bad but I think I will put my yellow one up for sale and jump straight to buying those Cragar SS's I was dreaming about! and I'll prob change my avatar too! Re: Just bought a dry stored '79!
Congrats on the find. My handy conversion chart says that about 5713.05 American dollars. Rather expensive over here unless it's really clean, but from what I understand not a bad deal over there...

looks like it's missing the chrome trim that goes under the grille.

Re: Just bought a dry stored '79!
WOW! That is super clean. I agree with you on the exterior color. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's too nice to mess with.
Appearently the person that chose the frame color was visually impared.

Re: Just bought a dry stored '79!
Yeah the mirrors are awful but I've got a set of elephant ears to put on. Im going to paint it all black underneath (now that youve all slated it!) and wax oil it. The bottom bit of the grille is there, it's just reflecting the blue paint!
Ive just got to get an MOT on it tomorrow and pay the road tax. |

Re: Just bought a dry stored '79!
That's a nice truck. Have to agree that the frame color needs to be changed to black. Looks to me like somebody trimmed down an 81-82 grille and put it in. Doesn't look too bad at all. I'd leave the exterior color alone for now. Looks to be in really good shape. Nice score! ...Joe

Re: Just bought a dry stored '79!
Thanks I was wondering about the grille, it looked chopped but I couldn't work out why it would of been, now I know. Going to take it to a cruise next week and see some proper yank stuff so will put some pics on then
