Motor swap what should i go with???
Okay guys i have a project going on right now well 2 haha.. i have a 98 silverado that i am body dropping it has a full custom frame that i build.. and i also have a 86 c10 that i want to work on and the 305 in there is on its last limb! so i have a motor out of my 98 its a 5.7 vortec with a 4l60e that i can drop in the c10 or i can just put it back in the silverado.. so I'm trying to figure out what other options i have and I'm open to any idea's diesels small blocks whatever i don't want to spend an arm and a leg on the motor for the c10 its more of my parts getting truck more then anything.. i have all s orts of goodies for it likeART controls, lots of painted and powder coated goodies for it! so i want it to look nice.. another thing to keep in mind is that i live in Ca so smog is an issue!
here are some pictures of the silverado |

Unless you are doing something truly radical (like a blown 572) with the '98 -- i'd put the Vortech motor back in it and build a mild 350 to replace your 305 ----- it would use the same mounts, all the smog equipment would bolt up where its supposed to, and you could clean it up to make it look sharp as well.
I know thats not the most original idea -- but if its for your parts getter, i think that would be relatively easy and could be done in a couple days. (more time if you get your own machine work done and assemble it yourself-- but its cheaper that way than buying a crate motor) or a crate 350 can be had from a Chevy dealership with 290 hp for around 1800$ |

id agree,,i would just build a 350 for it...since your building a radical truck,,and just useing it for a parts getter,,id go that route..man the silverado look great...

The ultimate bang for your buck.... Cadillac 500ci. The 1970 version boasted 400+hp, 550lbs torque. There's even a decent aftermarket for performance parts .
