Bending new tranmission lines.
Has anyone bent new transmission lines? I bought new lines to install. The old ones worked but the fittings were almost gone. I could not get a wrench on them. I had to use vicegrips to remove them. I was thinking of routing the hose above headers along the valve cover. The ceramic coated headers will keep the engine bay temps down. I do have the clips to hold the lines along the oil pan.
Any suggestions or pictures? |

Re: Bending new tranmission lines.
I've bent fuel, trans & brake lines. For smoothe tight radii, pack tubing with sand, the sand keeps the tube from collapsing.

Re: Bending new tranmission lines.
Thanks for the tip. I do have some sand to use. I'll post pictures of the fuel and transmission lines.

Re: Bending new tranmission lines.
I should have stated in original reply that I use a good bending tool and sand. Without the sand in a tight radius, the walls collapse, no matter how good the bending tool is.

Re: Bending new tranmission lines.
Yes, sandblasting sand works great for bending lines, especially ones with a tight bend, or a bend near the end of a line that will not fit into a bender. Here are my carb lines, bent by hand (stuffed with sand).
G, here is what I did with my transmission lines...a little more expensive, but easy to do and they can be routed wherever you want. http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/driv...anny_hoses.htm

Re: Bending new tranmission lines.
I installed the fuel line today. Today was the first time I used a bending tool. I did fill the line with sand. I had a hard time getting it out because of the bends. I flushed it out with air.
In time I'll probably give it another try to get the line closer to the engine. Having air all the way around may be better too. The line is really close to the heater hose connection. I'll have to bend the fuel line so it does not touch the heater hose. Transmission lines, starter and radiator go in tomorrow!! |
