Engine stalling
Well after I finally got the truck on the road tonight, I discovered that when you come to a stop, then try to get going again, it wants to stall, and sometimes does.
Even after warming up it has that hesitation. I tried feathering the throttle to prevent it from stalling, but that doesn't always help. I found that when I come to a stop I have to keep the rpms up a bit and it is fine. My guess would be a carb issue. But not sure where to start looking and on a side not, I also discovered that my rad leaks and will most likely have to replace it. It is a 305, carburated if that helps.

Re: Engine stalling
Quadrajet. I have one on from a friend, and I think I will put the old one back on that came with the truck, since it was the water in the old tank that was causing issues back when I bought it.
I replaced the tank and it's fresh gas, plus I emptied the carb of any water back when I did the tank. So right now I have 3 quadrajet carbs here. the original one, one from a friend ( on the truck now), and one from the wrecking yard.

Re: Engine stalling
what recent changes have you made besides the carb?- even though it sounds like a carb thing. i had put a Holley 750 on my 350 and it would want to die too, found out it was dumping WAY too much gas in, so i had to change the jets.
Anyone know if all quadrajets came with the same size jets? |

Re: Engine stalling
Your carb is leaking gas into the engine. I would find it very hard to believe that a Q-Jet could be rich enough to dump too much gas. I'd bet good money that it's dumping too much gas because of a leaky carb, and that's what's causing both your hesitation and the stalling.

Re: Engine stalling
Filter is new. It could be a leaky carb. I find it pretty hard on gas also. mind you I am used car, but still. I don't drive that far to work ( 10 mins) and I can almost see the gauge moving as I drive.
I might try putting the original carb on it and see, or even just rebuild it first, then put it on. I have the kit to rebuild it along with a new float. As for the stalling, it didn't stall on me once today. It did hesitate a few times, but no stalling.
