Beer keg gas tank?

Has anybody turned a beer keg into a gas tank for their truck? I'm planning out my '64 and i think a beer keg mounted on its side at the front of the bed would make a pretty cool gas tank. Anybody seen this done?

Re: Beer keg gas tank?

Yes I have, and not like I have any experience with making mistakes or anythingbut it's not D.O.T. legal and in some municipalities it can cause you trouble. BUT What will look E X T R E E M L Y cool and be legal is go to a local heavy truck junkyard and get an aluminum center fill Peterbilt 40 gal. tank and stainless straps. Get some 4" aluminum "c" stock and cut it into two 18" sections. Grind out the channels to accommodate the tank and bolt them to the cross sections of the bed frame. Fab some cross sections and drill them out to accept the strap end bolts and have them welded to the "c" stock. Polish the tank and the straps and mount the bad boy up. Plumb the outlet and vent lines in braid with AN fittings.
I saw this done on a short bed 65' at the track in Phoenix SICK!!

Re: Beer keg gas tank?

i've seen it done on a trike behind the driverseat if you can weld aluminium you should be able to make a pickuppipe a breatherpipe a fuelreturn and a gascap , the trike had one of those gascaps that looked like a knock off centrenut for spokewheels
