Using Third Row Seats From 00-up Suburban As Rear Blazer Seat
I just got throught mocking up the mounting for the third row seat that I got from a 2001 Suburban into my Blazer this weekend. Other than taking the time to get accruate measurements and a good seat height, this was a fairly easy install. The hardest part is figuring out how to mount the seat. This seat matches the front 99-06 Silverado bucket seats that I installed into my Blazer and gives me the safety and convenience of shoulder seat belts.
Has anybody else done this install before? Last edited by wildmanaaron; 10-31-2007 at 12:44 PM. |

Re: Using Third Row Seats From 00-up Suburban As Rear Blazer Seat
I just bought a 3rd row seat from a '99 burb. Its similar to the one you have, but with out the built in shoulder harness. I have seen a few people that have done this swap. I waiting to find a seat bracket to install mine. Post some pictures when you are finished.

I love the older 88-98 style seats but they don't have the seat-belt features that I was looking for when I had my top off.

I just picked up the custom brackets that I had made at a local welding shop. I will post some pictures soon but I am stripping the paint off of the floor so they won't look too pretty.

Were your custom brackets more than $100? I only wondering because I was going to buy a set off of eBay for that price.

Re: Using Third Row Seats From 00-up Suburban As Rear Blazer Seat
First take off all of the original brackets off of the bottom of the seat. I also cut off the brace that is on the bottom of the seat on the passenger side that is used to keep the seat up when they were installed in the factory Suburbans. I then measured the width and bolt holes off two of the rear brackets that I had removed earlier. Then I took the two brackets that came off of the factory seat from my 81 Blazer and cut off the two tabs off of each bracket. These two brackets already have a mounting hole that is reinforced underneath the floor and I would rather use them instead of drilling more holes into the floor that wouldn't be a strong as the original holes.
I originally used two 2x4's to mock up the seat height to get an idea on how high the seats would sit.(Some may want a higher seat but I didn't.) After getting the two rear brackets made and drilled, and adding a few inches of height to the front brackets that I had removed from the original Blazer seat I was ready to try and mock the seat up again. I am going to weld the front brackets to the inner round tube on the front of the Suburban third row, drill some holes for mounting the rear seat brackets and then I will be done. I turned the front brackets so that the bolt will be hidden when carpet is installed. I paid $45 to have the rear brackets made and drilled as well as having the extra height and inner reinforcment added to the front brackets. Last edited by wildmanaaron; 11-06-2007 at 07:43 PM. |
