Re: 73-80 Chevy NOS Tailgate -eBay
Aurora isn't that far from me, maybe 30 minutes if that! He is kind of steep on the price, but how many like that do you find these days? I can kind of see his side too on the price because of this, but I wouldn't give that much for it myself. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Times being what they are, namely $3 a gallon gas and in recession, he'll likely not sell it unless one of the Barrett-Jackson types that have deep pockets buys it.
Repops with the Chevrolet lettering would likely be the way that I'd have to go in a case where I was going to use the truck daily. If I was building a 100 point show truck that was going to be garaged and kept from the elements the rest of it's life, I could justify the $425 price. I have a new GM tailgate for my 86 that is still in the GM packaging that my buddy at my local dealership got for me over 2 years ago. I paid $225 for it. Just wait another 10 years or so and I'll bet that the 81-87s get astronomical like this. That's why I bought one and stashed it away. When I build my truck the right way someday, it won't be seeing rain, much less snow! I'm going to be watching his auctions now since he is so close to me and see if he might come up with something that I need or want, but if he doesn't budge on his prices, I may not be able to buy anything from him. ...Joe
