I found this video while looking for some white wll tires. I have seen some paint for making white walls, but I never new that raised white letter tires had a hidden white wall under them, and after seeing some of the prices, I think I am going to give this a shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkcm3rh60p0

LOL - never seen it done with a grinder.

With my old tire business, we made our own machine and had it down to a science. It looked factory. We could even add gold, red, or blue stripes. Did that for lowrider and custom guys for 11 years.

Some white letter tires have tons of white rubber - most of the time even more than whitewall tires do..

One thing to be mindful of though - oil in the rubber will eventually bleed through and turn kind of brown. The letters in the lettered tires will bleed back in brown where they once were and you'll be able to read it in the new 'white wall'. Crazy...

I'm running them on my 62. I couldn't afford real ones. I've had no problems. I bought the tires from Pep Boys and had them 'buffed' for $15 a tire.

I really like this idea, but I've always wondered weather it weakens the tire... I'd hate to find out that answer while cruisin down the highway hahaha

Not at all, unless you cut into the structure of the tire. Firestone tested ones that we buffed for just that, and liability concerns - and found it did not weaken the tire at all.

FWIW - Tires made by Cooper stay very white and do not turn(brownish) nearly as bad as some do. And BFG white letter tires can nearly be buffed to 'gangster' thickness.

You're best bet is to call a shop that sells hydraulics and caters to the lowrider crowd. You'll get a quick answer to where you can get tires 'buffed'.

Hey that's pretty cool to see but $25-40 you can get them done cleanly and better finish at a shop w/ a cutter

Wow! Glad I posted this. I didn't know this was such a popular way of achieving white wall. It definitely gives a person some options. Thanks for the feedback Lane.

I've never had a problem. I've put plenty of city and highway miles on these tires with zero issues. I have a friend who runs them on 65 Panel which he commutes in 80 miles a day. The tread wears out but no problems with the sidewalls... I've been around lowriders with buffed whitewalls my whole life and I've never seen anyone have problems with the sidewalls being weak... If I ever do, I will let you know....

The place I get them done in Albuquerque is a lowrider shop. There are two places in town that I know of that does it and they are both lowrider/hydraulic shops...

Is this the same Lane from the LSx sites?

Know anywhere in the DFW area that does this? I know I wont find any place around NE Texas that does it, but a trip to DFW would not be that bad to get it done right.

That's me.

We sold all of our equipment to T-N-T Wholesale Tire in Grand Prairie. Call Lee(or anyone there) at 972-686-8900(I believe) and if they still do it he can help you. Or - call Joe at Low Joe's in Ft Worth. I have his number at work, but not at the moment.

Hey man I used to have my mom cut my whitewalls for me. I would just mount a set on the pass. side of her Maverick...then in a couple weeks...vaaallaaaa...BIG WHITES !!!!.....
