Need an honest opinion
Hey guys I am new to the forum and have a small problem. I have a 66 SWB stepside I am restoring. When I got it the original motor was gone and was replaced with a good running yet leaky 305. I have the motor out and was planning on a quick and dirty rebuild and then later replace it with a built 383. Now heres the problem. I was just given the opportunity to buy a 327 rebuilt for $600. It will be a temp motor until the 383 is done, what would you guys recommend? thanks for the input.

Re: Need an honest opinion
If the 327 is a good running motor, and rebuilt like you say $600. is a great price. If I had a 327 in my truck I'd leave it there. Great motor. I had one in a 66' truck many years ago and loved it.

Re: Need an honest opinion
1st, welcome to the board from Bama...
2nd, I would grab the 327 if it has been rebuilt and is in good shape...That is a good engine to have, and who knows, you may like it and find other ways to spend the money the 383 was going to cost.... Chad

Re: Need an honest opinion
I agree with these guys. I have a 327 in my 62 and I love it! It's got plenty of power and sounds great. For $600, it's a steal!
Welcome from Santa Fe, New Mexico...

Re: Need an honest opinion
I would rather spend $600 on a rebuilt 327 then $300 on a crapy underpowered 305 anyday...

Re: Need an honest opinion
welcome from whidbey island washington! i would grab up the 327. its got a shorter stroke which means that it will rev faster than a 383. built just right it will out perform some of the larger displacement small block motors because it revs alot faster. btw, you wouldn't happen to be an AE would ya??
