Swappin out front bumper for one with cut outs for fog lights in the bumper

I have to replace the bent front bumper on my 85 anyway and I was thinking of going to an 82 so I could put fog lights in the bumper. I was wondering if any one has done it? What for lights did you use and where did you get them?

you could mount a pretty decent set of rectangle off road lights. You might have to fab up some mounting brackets using the existing holes but wouldnt be too hard. I had though about doing the same thing at one point with my truck until I got the military grille gaurd.

Check out Fourwheel parts wholesalers for a variety of light options. Even local parts stores have one or two rectangle lights but 4wheel parts would have the more popular brands..

Well, as a matter of fact I did. I had these on my truck for a while, but have since gone back with the solid front bumper. I still have this set-up, but just wasn't happy with the way it looked. I even got a used set of factory bumper turn signal lens', and gutted them out, so that it looked factory on the outside, but the combo driving, fog lights were behind. The light didn't go thru the plastic very well. I bought these lights on Ebay, they were cheap and fit the hole almost perfect. I haven't lost interest in this, but will get back to them later. If someone has another idea, I'm all ears. David

I forgot something. The outer bumper bracket's have to be trimmed a lot, so that the fat lights can fit in there. Don't push anything with the outer part of the bumper, I'm sure it will bend. The bracket I made looked like a "Z". The top holes of the cutout, held it on the bumper, and it Z'd to the top of the light. David

I wanted to do that same thing on my old 87, now if i still had it DBLSPRT68 would have me all set on doing it. that looks good to me man. Also DBLSPRT68 I must say that that 90-91 front end looks very good on your truck. Wish I'd have gotten to do that to my 87. Good job

I think that they look pretty good myself. Too bad about the outer bumper brackets. Sometimes the cool factor outweighs function, and is worth the tradeoff. ...Joe

DoubleSprt68 those do look good. I would like to try and find some fog lights with a clear glass cover so the light does not get so diffused like you ran into. Maybe someone else will chime in that has found the lights we need. Hey wern't there some cars in the 80's that had really small sealed head lights like a Pontiac Sunbird?

What is the size of those cutouts?

Maybe get out the dremmel and cut the plastic cover off, and replace it with some clear plexi or something that would stand up better to sunlight?

The problem is the nature of plastics, light get diffused as it pass through it. That is why many C-5 Corvette owners are switching to the export style lenses those are glass not plastic.

Yes, the plastic was the problem. I'll need to re-think this, since a lot of you guys like them.... I wish I did too. I want a factory look on the outside, and have to dual function lights behind. Those lights are great, driving or fog, which ever you need at the time. These were cheap also, but I've got some Piaa combo lights on my BMW. They were more expensive, but the light output is awsome!! David
