Need help with part to order

Ok, here is the deal. I have a 64 GMC. I am doing a disc brake conversion using a 71 Upper and Lower Control arm. My question is this, I would like to replace my outer tie rod end, but which one should I order, the one for the 64 or the one for the 71. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Mike

Depends on the spindle, I think. I know 65 and 64 suspension have different ties. The parts guy I talked to knew and asked me if it was long or short(tierod). This was years ago however............maybe you should buy all of 'em!

You will need the one for whatever year spindle you are using.

Re: Need help with part to order

If I order the 71 tie rod to fit the 71 spindle, will it fit the 64 adjuster sleeve? Thanks

I'm not too sure on that one, I would guess that the spindle taper would be the only difference. You could go to the parts store and try to see what fits maybe?

Re: Need help with part to order

Thanks for the input guys, I believe I got it all figured out, please let me know if I am wrong. So today I had the opportunity to take the 71 disc spindle and put it on the truck to fit the 64 outer tie rod and it seems to fit okay, plenty of threads showing and the cotter pin hole. Am I missing anything? Thanks again.

Re: Need help with part to order

Not sure on the 71 but i used an 87 suburban and got an adjusting sleeve adapter from cpp and then i had to flop the stock outer joints to the inside to make it work.
