what different frames work?

I am wondering what later frames might work on 60-66 trucks?
I have a 87 suburban that is a 5 lug 1/2 ton,and has a posi, I think it is the same length as a lwb truck, but would it fit under without too much modification?
Anybody use other different stuff?

I think you would be better off to find a 63-66 frame . 67-72 may work as well but not sure about cab mounts. Then use the 87' front cross member and suspension. It is a bolt in with minor fab work to mount the power steering box. The 87' frame is taller. I used the motor mount pads from 73-87 cut them down and rewelded and they worked great and looks a lot cleaner. Not sure about the 63-66 GMC rear suspension but I know the 67-72 GMC used leaf like your 87' but removing the pads and setting up for trailing arms is no big deal. Good luck.

I know the 84 G30 chassis is working good so far...The core support for it and my 65 are both 22 inches from the center of the wheel to the core support. I am taking my 65 core support, cutting off the ends and welding to the center section of the 84 support...retaining all the factory radiator, condenser, mounting hardware from the 84 as well as the position. The ends will let me bolt up my fenders and work back from there. Frame is flat all the way. I will have to cut the drivers inner fender for clearance for the power steering gear box, but so far that is the only snag I see at the moment. I am sure there will be more.

I agree with 502tripower.....a '63-'66 frame would be the best. The '67-'72 frames are the same as the '63-'66 frames except for the front horn for the bumper and the x-member for the radiator. The '87 differential will be about 1 1/2" wider than a '60-'66 differential. The complete front suspension from the '87 will bolt on a '60-'66 frame with minor mods as already stated.

thanks guys, that info helps, I was hoping for an easy out... but there never is...
has anybody used that kind of rear? does 1 1/2 wider mean only 3/4 on each side?

I am wondering the same thing "jonz". I have a 5 lug axle up in the woods that is out of a 87. I was plannin on using in my 65 pickup. I guess we just dont get this lucky right? I also would like to know if 3/4 on each side is a major problem?

Just make up the difference in the backset of your wheels. No big deal.

C5 Corvette frames work with a little cutting... No seriously I agree that you are better off using the 63-66 frame and bolting on -87 suspension. As for the rear I would stick with the stock housing and either buy new axles or have your flanges welded up and re-drilled for 5-lug. That way you can use the deeper wheels that make these things look so *****in.

...and by the way 502; the Chevy=Coil, GMC=Leaf idea is a myth. It just depends on how i was ordered.

Yes 3/4" each side. It may or may not be an issue depending on what wheels you use.
