Re: 700r4

I got mine at Pick and Pull and rebuilt it myself. I put one in my 79 4x4 also. I had a TH350 in the 65 when I started and upgraded to the 700R4. What a differnce on the freeway. I will never go back.. I locked up the converter manually. If you get one make sure it is an 88 and up model. And if you get it rebuilt take it to a local shop so if it breaks you don't have to pull it out of your truck and ship it back.

Re: 700r4

In my old '68, I put in a 700R4 from Bowtie Overdrives. I know of 4 people personally that used them and are very happy. They are up by Victorville, CA.

I put mine in myself, dialed things in with some phone conversations and once everything was on the road, I drove up there and had them tweak it to get everything perfect. They swapped the governer since with my combo, the one that was in it was shifting a little early.

Again, very happy with them.

Re: 700r4

I bought a motor and 700r4 from a board member ($3600), put it in the back of my truck, drove it to a local transmission shop, drove in with a 305/th350 and drove out with the 406/700r4 a few days later, total cost, $406 and he got to keep the old motor and trans, I did not argue.

This was my 85 can't see it being a heck of a lot more expensive for a 60-66 model year truck.
